RIP Aniceto Molina y Selena
Below is Selena's hit song LaCarcacha. In English, that means, "The Jalopy" :]

Crazy how it's been 20 years since Selena was killed, I still remember where I was when I heard about it on the radio as a kid.

I feel like I'm waiting for a table at Pappasito's.
That type of music isn't my cup of tea, but it's a very important genre, and there are some extremely talented musicians performing it. I had a student some years ago who played trumpet for a pretty big-name Tejano band around here. He was white, and his name was Rick White. Great player, but the bandleader said he needed a Mexican name. Thereafter he was called "Ricardo Blanco."

lol niiiice!!! The genre is sooo vast. From the various cumbias of South American, merengues and salsas of the Caribbean, pop/folk/and corridos of Mexico, and finally to a extremely small extent of the latin culture...(less than 5%).. Tejano music. Most people do know that "Tejano" music isn't even known by the majority of people in Mexico. Yet in Texas and the US, it is a representative of Mexico. San Antonio is a prime example of the Tejano culture and hand to heart, after living there for 4 years, I probably saw about 4-6 Mexicans in San Antonio lol. A million chicanos for sure tho lol.
All in all, within the many types of music south of the border and onward, one thing seems to be the common denominator. It all seems to be of positive nature, of joyous nature, designed for dancing and celebration, and above all original, full of flavor, and technical.
PS: Pappasito's rules!

What I find interesting is just how much polka there is in it. And how much Irish music is in modern country music. Music doesn't happen in a vacuum, and while styles developed in the New World, they definitely didn't start here.
And yes, Pappasito's rules. I may have to go get my some chicken fajitas this weekend. My God, the butter.
